The SkyShade Epic is a flagship designer full cassette awning created for customers who want a more refined look without compromising on strength, convenience, or performance. With its sleek rectangular cassette, clean lines, and premium specification, the Epic is a superb choice for patios, balconies, garden seating areas, and commercial spaces where style matters just as much as shading performance.
Unlike heavier torque bar systems designed for wide-span commercial use, the Epic uses a clean end-fix bracket system as standard, giving it a more streamlined appearance and simpler installation format. On awnings up to 6 metres wide, only two brackets are required, positioned neatly at either end of the cassette for wall, ceiling, or balcony fixing. For widths above 6 metres, additional brackets are added to provide the extra support needed for larger installations.
This is a fully motorised awning as standard, making everyday use effortless in both domestic and commercial settings. The full cassette design helps protect the fabric and mechanism when closed, while the adjustable pitch and high-tension folding arms ensure reliable performance once extended.
The Epic is built around a fully enclosed cassette system, helping to protect the fabric cover and operating components from the weather when the awning is retracted. This not only improves the appearance when closed, but also helps maintain the awning’s finish and fabric condition over time.
For awnings up to 6m wide, the Epic uses a simple two-bracket system fixed at each end of the cassette. This creates a cleaner overall installation and reduces visible bracketry, making it especially well suited to modern residential properties and well-prepared commercial facades.
Standard brackets are designed for face fixing, but ceiling brackets and other specialist fixing options are available where required. As with any large awning, the final fixing method should always suit the structural substrate, and chemical fixings are strongly recommended where possible for the most secure result.
Every SkyShade Epic awning is electrically operated as standard using a Somfy motor system. Customers can choose a handheld remote control or a wireless wall switch as their standard control method, with additional Somfy IO options available for more advanced operation.
Where smart control is required, the Somfy TaHoma Switch can be added, allowing the awning to be operated through the Somfy app on a smartphone or tablet. This makes the Epic a practical solution for customers wanting a more connected outdoor living setup.
To extend use into the evening, the Epic can be ordered with integrated LED lighting built into the folding arms. Additional lighting can also be specified in the cassette ends, beneath the cassette, or across all available positions for a more dramatic effect.
The lighting system operates through Somfy IO controls and can be dimmed to 50% brightness, helping create a more relaxed outdoor setting. LED lighting is only available when the awning is ordered with electric motor operation.
The SkyShade Epic is available in a wide choice of high-quality Dickson awning fabrics, offering proven outdoor durability, colour stability, and performance. For more specialist requirements, upgraded fabric options including Dickson Jacquard, Solar Protection, Max self-cleaning, and Spark FR are also available for a surcharge.
For increased privacy and lower-angle sun protection, the Epic can also be specified with an integrated drop down valance in the front profile. This feature is available in both manual and electric versions, with a maximum drop of 1000mm or 1200mm depending on the fabric selected.
When the drop down valance is included, the cassette depth increases from 167mm to 221mm. This option is available on widths up to 6m, with pricing on application.
As with any retractable awning, wind is the greatest risk to the structure, followed by rain where the pitch is too shallow for proper water runoff. For this reason, electric operation combined with a wind or motion sensor is always recommended, helping the awning retract automatically if the weather changes unexpectedly.
If the awning is to be used during rainfall, a pitch of at least 20 degrees is advisable to encourage water to run freely from the front bar. Water should never be allowed to pool on the fabric, as excessive loading can damage a self-supporting folding arm awning.

This is a 2 bracket, end fix cassette awning, (up to 6m width only) so is possibly the simplest retractable folding arm awning to install, with only 2 brackets to fix and position before lifting the awning into position and securing. The awning will be a minimum 2 man lift onto the brackets, unless you have some suitable lifting equipment to hand.
For sizes over 7m wide the awning will be a coupled system requiring more technical knowledge and ability to assemble on site as 2 units into one with multiple brackets for fixing.
